Valentine's Day is a Crock

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.

I have bad news. Valentine's Day is a crock.

I hate Valentine's Day almost as much as I hate Easter (the commercial Easter Bunny Easter, not the religious Easter).

Somehow we get all these messages that flowers, candy, going out to dinner, and jewelry are the expected things to receive if one has true love. If you don't receive those things, apparently you are paired romantically with a shlumpkin. On top of all of this, flowers are raised in price, restaurants are horribly crowded and the service is terrible, all due to the hype around Valentine's.

Maybe being romantic is living within your means! Maybe being in love means saving your money so you have enough cash to pay for the groceries, and having a fun time cooking together and eating with the progeny borne of your relationship!

I typically try to avoid ranting on my blog, but I suppose today would qualify as a rant. I just have to get the message out, Valentine's Day is a crock.

Rant away. The commercialization of anything cheapens it to no end.
