Gleeful

Reasons why we loved Glee tonight, in no particular order.
  1. It featured the fake wheelchair boy who went to high school with Jessica
  2. The piece from Wicked, which Naomi and I saw together when we went to Chicago
  3. Puck saying it would be cool if Quinn's baby came out with a mohawk
  4. The dancing number with the entire choir in wheelchairs
  5. A Down Syndrome girl tried out for and made the Cheerios
  6. Mean Sue Sylvester went to go and visit her sister, who has Down Syndrome, and holding her hand and reading to her
  7. Sue Sylvester made the Down Syndrome Cheerio girl push for excellence instead of get by with mediocrity and pity
  8. The diva-off between Rachael and Kurt
  9. The fight between Puck and Finn in their wheelchairs
  10. Artie reassuring the stuttering Asian girl that even though he is in a wheelchair, his penis still works

Chicken Broccoli Soup

Now, you could make this delicious soup by using your leftover chicken broccoli casserole and adding chicken broth and a can of cream of mushroom soup to it. Or you could use this recipe.

Chicken Broccoli Soup
Makes a lot :-)

3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite sized pieces
1 lb. broccoli florets
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1.5 tsp curry powder
2 cups cooked rice
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
8 cups water
6 chicken boullion cubes

In a big pot of water, boil the chicken in water with a few tablespoons of salt until it's almost cooked through. Add the broccoli to the boiling water for about 6 minutes or until tender. Drain it all in a colander.

Return the chicken and broccoli to the big pot. Add cans of soup, mayonnaise, and curry, and stir it all together. Add water, chicken boullion cubes, and rice. Boil it together for about 20 minutes. Before serving add cheddar cheese, and heat it until it melts, then serve. (If you add cheese too early, it will get all funky as it cooks with the soup). Add salt and pepper to your taste.

Wagging Church

That's what the cool people call it. Our Australian girlfriend started the terminology, and now I can only think of missing church on Sunday as "wagging."

So I wagged church to stay home and take care of Nadia, who is sick. Usually I delegate staying home with a sick kid to one of the big girls, but due to the potential severity of this illness I thought I'd better handle it myself.

We watched the Hannah Montana movie.

I cooked soup, and drank coffee.

I caught up on Facebook and my favorite forum.

A kind soul brought us pizza.

We cozied on the couch and therefore I am sure I will soon be coming down with the flu too. But sometimes you have to show a little mama love to the sickies.

Hydration Sensation

As a gift from my work for 20 years of service, I am snazzing up my home office. One of the first things that arrived was the water cooler.

This water cooler is super cool. It has hot and cold water, and an energy saving mode. I also got the Greenway water filter, which means that we never have to cart big giant water bottles back and forth, we just fill up the thing from the tap and it will make filtered water come out of the cooler.

And I do believe that drinking more water will be good for all of us. And I'm thinking that I can get some nice powdered beverage mixes to put next to the water cooler, and probably a few Cup of Noodles in an emergency to use with the hot water spicket.

We mskis are going to be well watered!

Quality Time with Jason Mraz

Yesterday I drove in heavy traffic to downtown. And then drove in heavy traffic back.
And after about as much as I could stand of NPR and KNX 1070 and whatever it is 980, I popped in the Jason Mraz CD.
Friends, I have heard this CD literally 100 times. And it is so great. I could listen to it 100 more times.
It sounds good, has interesting lyrics, and generally is one of those albums that has the magical ability not to get old and tired after a few listens. Maybe it's the depth of the songs, or the musicianship, or that magical combination of the two.
Anyway. I highly recommend the Jason Mraz, "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things."

I Love Trader Joe's Cookbook

A friend at work recommended this cookbook...apparently, it is a real winner and you can get everything from one of my favorite places, Trader Joe's.
